The Queen is helping Kate preparing for her upcoming tour! As the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s trip to Australia and New Zealand in April draws closer, Sunday’s edition of the Daily Express reveals the Queen has taken the Kate “under her wing” to give her vital advice for the historic visit.
Behind the scenes, slowly but surely, Her Majesty has been grooming Kate, passing on her wealth of wisdom and experience to ensure the future of the monarchy. “Above all the Queen regards Catherine as the perfect partner for William and she thinks they are a great team,” said one courtier. “She doesn’t want to see a repeat of Charles and Diana when they toured Australia and the crowds were only interested in meeting Diana. Most importantly, the Queen can pass on her knowledge of the countries, their cultures, histories and the dos and don’ts of what to say and not say.”
Apart from a brief stopover to change planes in September of 2012, Kate has never been to Australia, whereas the Queen’s tour there with Prince Philip in October 2011 was their 16th visit. It may also have been their last, even more reason for the Queen to make sure William and Kate’s 3-week trip is a huge success.
Like all of the Queen’s 12 prime ministers, Sir John Major admits his knowledge of Commonwealth countries cannot hope to match hers. He also says Kate has learnt from the Queen’s “humanity and humour.” “It isn’t easy suddenly to find yourself the focus of world attention,” he says of Kate. “It takes a lot to get used to but she has very good advice. People forget the Queen may be a monarch but she’s also a mother and a grandmother and a very human person. Of course she wants them to be successful and of course she offers help and they’d be foolish not to take it. One can see what a good relationship exists.”
